In 2003, this section of road received a fresh coat of pavement markings on the centerline. Unfortunately, there were some issues with the application of the double yellow center line and the new markings had to be covered up. The most cost effective and permanent fix was to apply a single coat of “type II” slurry seal one pass wide over the unacceptable pavement markings.
Fast forward thirteen years to 2016 and you see the true value of the slurry seal as a pavement preservation tool that extends the service life of existing pavements. The exposed asphalt on the edges that received no slurry seal is very oxidized and cracked. Through the center pass where the slurry seal was applied, there is minimal cracking and the integrity of the underlying asphalt has been preserved.
